It appears to me that the title (for Dummies) conveys more than intended, as after reading this book, I believe most of us Dummies, will remain pretty much Dummies. The read gives, of course, the perfunctory information (court layout; positions, rules and penalties stated as simply as possible, etc., BUT when it comes to the most confusing rule of all ("ONSIDE VS OFFSIDE") they give us only the addition of a couple (apparently borrowed) diagrams, and add, 'it's tricky.' I had hoped that accessing their suggested website would greatly amplify that information--it didn't but instead provided mostly ADS--some for the publishing company and others completely extraneous. Self-serving !It appeared that they gave more attention to the cutesy idea of referring to the soccer players (except once) as "she"--plus a "she" for a referee.A world full of essentially male soccer players, and this book would have us think: "she"! (Gotta note that although the two authors are male, the make up of publishing company positions involved is very predominating female--wonder who made the "she/he" decision ------ Silly, but also a little irksome.
I sponsor two 10 year old children (boy and girl) in local soccer. Although where I grew up (Colorado) soccer didn't exist. I have grown to love the sport and this is an excellent guide to the game, it's rules and fundamentals. If you would like a quick and well laid out introduction this is a good choice.,
This is a very basic introduction. If you've had no experience with soccer at all, then I would recommend this. If you have any knowledge of the game, you probably know everything in this book. I am a novice soccer fan but I still knew everything that was here.
This book is a great start to know everything there is about soccer. All the rules are clearly explained along with details about equipment, the field - just about anything you could possibly want to know.
I had no clue to what was taking place on the field and my granddaughter is a star player. After reading most of the book I at least have some idea of the game.
Easy and inexpensive introduction to soccer. A quick read which made watching the World Cup much more enjoyable.
I just wish you could get an English League version.
A very quick read and very helpful guide as to some very simple and basic things. How to pass, and the different kinds of passes, etc. Which part of the foot they are supposed to use. Lots of other helpful little details.
