-Standard, basic information. Problem is the format, and the print and lack of proofreading. For instance, page 19 ends mid sentence. The missing information is important, essential. The recipes themselves are in smaller print, difficult to see because of the print size, font, and color of ink. And they are next to the binding, meaning the spine of the book has to be broken to be able to read the recipes. I will be returning the book because it's too difficult to read the information for me personally - (older eyes).
If you or someone in your family has recently been diagnosed with gluten or wheat issues and you are at the"Heck! What do I do now?" stage, or if you aren't a pro in the kitchen, this book would provide you with a good starting point .If you have lived with these food restrictions for a while, this probably isn't the cookbook for you. Several of the recipes are your basic "replace flour with gluten-free flour" or "replace pasta with gluten-free pasta" recipes. Kind of already knew to do that.
This book is Amazing! I love the time the author put into giving details on being gluten free. Not just recipes that are easy to follow and delicious but also how to shop, what to look for, even offering side choices when planning your meals. My daughter is NCGS but preparing dinners for a family of 6 when at least half of them are extremely picking can be overwhelming. This book has taking a lot of the anxiety out of my shopping and preparing meals for my entire family. Thank you Pamela Ellgen!!!
I recently started having health problems involving my G.I. tract that the doctors can't quite figure out; all testing has come back clean, even for Celiac, but eating gluten free seems to help ease my excruciating pain so I decided to order this book to help me learn a whole new way of cooking/ living..I just got it not long ago, so I've only made/ tried a few recipes so far but they're really yummy. The instructions are ready to understand and it makes it easy to know what ingredients you'll need and the time it'll take.I highly recommend!
I'm not sure what I was expecting as we are just dabbling with the possibility of going gluten free, but I was surprised at how many recipes were standard but swapped out typical gluten items for gluten free. I made a few of the others and they were great (especially the broccoli bacon salad!!)
Love it! only downside is the lack of pictures, and they kind of attempt to make the recipes healthy- for example the fish and chips were all baked and weren't that good until I fried them quick. But overall very pleased!!
Lots of great ideas. Pictures helped a lot.Fun and different.
Awesome cookbook plus includes nutritional info on each recipe which is great if you're diabetic only thing is wish it had pictures
