My almost 6 year old says, "It was a very nice book, and the ending was the very best part! I like the cover, and I like how Egg keeps saying, "I'm not hatching!" My 2.5 year old also enjoyed the story and illustrations. This is a very sweet story about being patient and looking forward to all that life has to offer. Gehl is a wonderful children's author who truly understands the simple beauty of children's books. Additionally, this is a great book for children to read as spring approaches, the weather changes, and new life "hatches" all around!
I bought this book for a colleague's baby shower. It is an adorable book for this second time mom and dad and their young son. Peep is just the right combination of cajoling big sister and Egg's character rings authentic--and is hilarious. Wan's simple yet expressive illustrations are perfect for the book and a true joy. Overall, I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever been hesitant about trying something new.
Granddaughter cannot get enough of it.....Mom has to read it to her every night before bed time
What a delightful story! My son and I both enjoyed Laura Gehl's "One Big Pair of Underwear," and I'm so happy to say that this book hits a home run, too! My 2-year-old especially loves the repeating phrases (and the shouting out of them during reading), and the colorful, friendly pictures. I love the story, and its message of coming out of your shell (ha ha) and overcoming your fears with the help of friendship. It's sweet to read, it's sweet to look at, and its a wonderful addition to our library! Highly recommended!
A sweet, funny story about overcoming your fears of the larger world. While some children's books can be a bit heavy-handed when trying to share a message, Laura Gehl's use of humor really speaks to kids and lets them make their own conclusions. Both of my boys enjoyed it a lot! Great illustrations as well!
This is an adorably illustrated, fun to read children's book. My child loved the story and the cute characters. I especially adore the illustrations.
My pre-schooler loves this book! He always gets to choose "two books" at bedtime ("two!"), and Peep and Egg: I'm Not Hatching is a favorite first choice. The graceful text is complemented by pleasing and colorful illustrations. My son loves the farm setting and the sister and brother duo. We hope to see more stories featuring Peep and Egg!
My 2 year old son loves this book. It is often his top choice for reading before nap time. The story is very clever but also easy to follow. My son likes repeating after me as i read. And the illustrations are lovely!
